CAS NUMBER : 84-74-2
EC-NUMBER : 201-557-4
SYNONYMS : Dibutyl Phthalate, n-Butyl phthalate, DBP, Phthalic acid dibutyl ester, Butyl Phthalate, Di n Butyl Phthalate, Di-n-Butyl Phthalate, Dibutyl Phthalate, Phthalate, Butyl, Phthalate, Di-n-Butyl, Phthalate Dibutyl
MOLECULAR WEIGHT : 278.34
MOLECULAR FORMULAR : C16H22O4
PHYSICAL FORM : Clear Liquid
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION :
Dibutyl phthalate is a colorless and oily liquid at standard condition. Dibutyl phthalate is stable at increased temperatures due to its low vapor pressure and will not boil until 340°C. Dibutyl phthalate’s stability at high temperatures has led it to be commonly used as a plasticizer in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) to increase flexibility and softness. Dibutyl phthalate is soluble in many organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and benzene but only slightly soluble in water. Additional uses of Dibutyl phthalate include car interiors, vinyl fabrics, elastomers, lacquers, adhesives and solid rocket propellant.

Applications : DBP, Dibutyl phthalate is often added to polyvinyl chloride as a plasticizer in order to improve it material characteristics. Dibutyl phthalate does not polymerize when added to PVC and allows for PVC molecules to slide along one another without tangling. The ability to avoid the polymers from becoming entangled will increase the flexibility of the PVC, making it more suitable for a number of applications. Vinyl fabrics and raincoats are examples of how Dibutyl phthalate will increase the flexibility of PVC. Dibutyl phthalate is entirely composed of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen making it ideal for combustion reactions. Dibutyl phthalate is used as a stabilizer within solid rocket propellant as Dibutyl phthalate readily contributes molecules to sustain the combustion reaction at elevated temperatures. Plasticizer for Paint, Plasticizer for PVC, Softener for rubber, Ink, Synthetic Rubber and Adhesive, Catalyst for Polymerization (Ziegler-type Catalyst), Other Application, For PVC, alkyd resins, ethyl cellulose and neoprene as plasticizer and softener in order to improve the resilience of the article etc. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is Colorless transparent oily liquid, slightly with fragrance, Molecular formula C16H22O4, Molecular weight 278.35, Relative Density (d2520) 1.045, with a strong ability to dissolve. have excellent compatibility with most organic solvents and hydrocarbons nitrocellulose, polystyrene and others , cellulose resin and PVC primary plasticizer. Especially suitable for nitrocellulose coating with excellent solubility, dispersion, adhesion, flexibility and stability of the film are good; good compatibility with pigments for the coloration of the film, artificial leather and other plastic products; also For PVC, alkyd resins, ethyl cellulose and neoprene as plasticizer and softener in order to improve the resilience of the article. DBP is used extensively in the adhesives industry to plasticize polyvinyl acetate (PVA) emulsions. The low viscosity and compatibility of DBP make it ideally suited for PVA-based adhesives when bonding cellulosic materials. Depending on the amount of plasticizer used, the handling and application properties of PVA adhesive can vary greatly. DBP is an excellent solvent for many oil-soluble dyes, insecticides, peroxides and other organic compounds, It is used as an antifoam agent and as a fiber lubricant in textile manufacturing. DBP is also used in the coatings industry as a primary plasticizer-solvent for nitrocellulose lacquers. It provides flexibility at low temperatures and is especially desirable thanks to its broad compatibility with modifying resins. More information, please contact Thai poly Chemicals Co., Ltd.
